Local funeral director runs to victory

Jamie Richards of Pendle Funeral Services raised just over £8000 for The Macmillan Cove Appeal after running the London Marathon.
Novice runner, Jamie initially set a target of £2000 but more than quadrupled that.
Commenting, Jamie Richards said: “I’m honoured to have run for the Macmillan Cove Appeal, a charity that means so much to me –and my family- and will have so many benefits for the people of Cornwall. A massive thank you to all of those people from the local community and businesses for their overwhelming support throughout.

“It was a magnificent yet really tough experience from start to finish.  In our profession we regularly witness the tragic effects of cancer and that is why I’m so passionate about supporting The Cove, which will be such a positive building for Cornwall.

“It was very emotional collecting my medal at the end of the race which I completed in three hours 57 minutes: the spirit of crowd and camaraderie between runners was a memory that will stay with me forever.”

As far as training goes, he trained intensely for nine months beforehand, losing three and a half stone in the process.
