Halliday Funeral Supplies becomes living wage employer

A leading manufacturer of coffins has been accredited as a living wage employer.

Halliday Funeral Supplies, based in Wirral, has committed to all of their employees receiving a minimum hourly wage of £7.85  rather than the national minimum wage of £6.50.

The living wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living. It is an hourly rate set independently and adjusted annually.

Living Wage Foundation director, Rhys Moore said: “We are delighted to welcome Halliday Funeral Supplies to the living wage movement as an accredited employer.

“We have accredited over 1,700 businesses including well-known companies such as Nationwide, Aviva and SSE. These businesses recognise that clinging to the national minimum wage is not good for business. Customers expect better than that.”

Richard Halliday said: “We are proud to have been accredited as a living wage employer. We believe strongly in the importance of looking after all of employees from apprentices through to members of staff who have been with us for more than 30 years.

“Our customers and suppliers value the fact that we are committed to the training and development of our people along with our commitment to outstanding craftsmanship, our comprehensive range of products and our passion for customer service.”
