Funeral director company, Walter C. Parson Group, have said it was “beyond privileged” when its staff were approached by the New Zealand Defence Force to repatriate a Commonwealth soldier.

The firm helped with the arrangements to dis-inter and repatriate Leading Marine Engineer William Goodwin as part of Te Auraki (The Return). Te Auraki is a project which was authorised by the New Zealand government in March 2018 to return home any servicemen who lost their lives overseas between 1955 – 1971.

Mr Goodwin passed away in Plymouth in 1956, and was buried in a Commonwealth War Grave at Weston Mill Cemetery. He was returned home to his family in Auckland on Wednesday 26 September.
