A.W. Lymn has announced that director Jackie Lymn Rose will be stepping back from her daily role, having served 48 years in the funeral service industry.

Lymn Rose, who will still remain a director at the firm and lead funerals on a part-time basis, was the sixth woman in Britain to qualify as an embalmer.

She joined the company in 1992 after teaching physical education and working for other funeral businesses in the West Midlands. She later became a director in 2003.

Lymn Rose also served as national president for the British Institute of Embalmers between 1988 and 1989, as well as an examiner for the National Association of Funeral Directors.

She will continue to provide training sessions for care home staff in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire despite her semi-retirement.

A.W. Lymn has expanded to 25 locations across the East Midlands during her tenure. This includes the development of a cemetery and barrow site in Gedling, and the acquisition of M.A. Mills and its expansion into Leicestershire.

Lymn Rose said: “The industry is a wonderful profession to be a part of. While it is demanding emotionally, it is also incredibly fulfilling, and I’m humbled to have been able to support so many families across the Midlands.

“I have truly loved working in our family business over the last 34 years. I feel honoured to be part of a workplace that has continued to expand while maintaining its core values of quality of care and service.”

She added: “The profession has changed immensely since I joined, with attitudes to funerals continuing to evolve. Our business has been at the helm of responding to this. I’d like to thank all those who have made my time at A.W. Lymn so rewarding.”
