East of England Co-op Funeral Services has completed a company-wide rollout of a digital management platform as part of a wider shift towards paperless funeral operations.
The organisation has adopted eFD, a funeral management system that brings client arrangements, payments, stock control, pricing, diary management, fleet coordination, document storage and communication tools into a single platform.
According to the business, this move is intended to improve accuracy, reduce administrative work and support its sustainability goals.
Joe Tull, head of funeral operations at the East of England Co-op, said: “Our role is to provide families with the very best care at a difficult time, and this new system helps us do that even better. eFD makes everyday tasks simpler and more accurate, giving our colleagues more time to focus on people rather than paperwork.”
Discussions are under way on whether Scotland’s legislation on deceased tracking and management could be extended to England. The co-operative said the new system supports its work over the past four years to prepare for a more regulated funeral sector.
The introduction of eFD replaces a series of manual processes with digital workflows. The co-operative said the changes are expected to cut paper use across branches and administrative teams, aligning with its broader environmental policies.
Rob Smith, technology officer at the East of England Co-op, added: “Introducing eFD is about giving our teams the right tools to do their jobs with confidence and care. It marks the next step in our journey into a digital age, building on more than 100 years of experience supporting families across the East of England.”
The organisation partnered with Seker, the developer of eFD, to design and implement the system across its funeral estate.
