North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has approved ST Sutton Funeral Services’ plans to convert a bungalow in Wells-next-the-Sea into another branch.
The funeral provider needed the council’s permission to change the use of a detached house known as Felden, which is located on Burnt Street, into new premises. The site was chosen by ST Sutton because it sits on a corner plot opposite the firm’s existing office.
Wells-next-the-Sea Town Council sent a letter of support for the proposal, and no objections were received during consultation.
According to planning officers, who approved the application last week, the proposed change of use is not expected to “significantly alter the building’s appearance or its surroundings”.
Documents submitted with the plans estimated that the premises would handle an average of two to three funerals a week.
A planning report noted: “In general, the proposed development is not viewed as having a negative impact on residential amenity or the character and appearance of the area.”
The decision follows an earlier approval allowing ST Sutton to convert the ground floor of 21 Station Road from use as a chartered surveyor’s office to a funeral directors.
