North Northamptonshire Council has launched a public consultation on plans to unify cemetery rules across 13 sites it manages.
Currently, cemetery regulations vary depending on location. The council is proposing a single set of rules to cover all sites, including standardised opening hours and a full range of burial options, where possible.
The consultation also invites feedback on proposals to make cemeteries more environmentally friendly and supportive of wildlife.
The sites are located in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and surrounding areas, and remain open for new burials.
Cllr Martin Griffiths, leader of North Northamptonshire Council, said: “The proposed regulations are intended to provide clear and consistent guidance on the management and maintenance of cemeteries across the local area.
“But we know this is a sensitive topic and would welcome the views of local residents to ensure the new, harmonised regulations are suitable for the needs of North Northamptonshire.”
Feedback will be reviewed before a final decision is made by the council’s executive.
If approved, the new regulations would come into force on the first day of the month following the decision.
