Funeral director shortlisted for business award

Poppy’s Funerals has been shortlisted in the national Nectar Business Small Business Awards.
The Tooting-based company was founded by Poppy Mardall three years ago. It aims to provide families in Greater London with simple, affordable, meaningful funeral services.
The all-women team offers a variety of services ranging from simple cremation to environmentally friendly coffins. Poppy’s Funerals is able to provide families with personal funeral services for up to half the average cost.
Poppy’s Funerals is now just weeks away from finding out if it will win the Entrepreneur of the Year category, which is judged by a panel of experts led by BBC ‘Dragon’, Sarah Willingham. If successful, Poppy will receive £2,000 cash for the business and 50,000 Nectar points and will be invited to the Nectar Business Round Table and Awards event in November, where she will meet and receive tailored expert advice from Sarah Willingham herself.
Poppy commented: “Being shortlisted in the Nectar Business Small Business Awards means everything to us. It is independent recognition that the incredibly hard work we’ve put in over the last three years means something to the planet. It also recognises the role of women in an industry which has traditionally been male-dominated, and that women make excellent entrepreneurs and pioneers.
“Our all-women team of undertakers is so, so proud. There are exciting changes afoot in the funeral industry and being short-listed shines a spotlight on this amazing, important work.”
Winners will be announced on Tuesday 10 November. For further details on the Awards and a full list of shortlisted companies, please visit www.nectar.com/smallbusiness.
