Nene Valley Crematorium to host Green Space Day in August
Staff will be on hand to explain the dual purpose of the site as both a place of remembrance and a green space supporting the community and the environment

Nene Valley Crematorium will host an open day on 9 August to mark Wellingborough Green Space Day and celebrate green spaces across North Northamptonshire.
The free event, running from 10am to 3pm, aims to showcase the role of green spaces in supporting health, wellbeing, biodiversity and social connection. Visitors can join guided tours of the crematorium’s gardens, enjoy its roses and wildflower meadows, and take part in family-friendly activities.
Local businesses and organisations promoting nature and wellbeing will also be present. Activities on the day include art lessons, nature trails, wellbeing advice, children’s activities, food stalls, plant sales and guided tours.
In addition, staff will be on hand to explain the dual purpose of the site as both a place of remembrance and a green space supporting the community and the environment.
Cllr Martin Griffiths, leader of North Northamptonshire Council and board member at Nene Valley Crematorium, said: “Green spaces are vital to our communities, not just for environmental reasons, but for the profound impact they have on our wellbeing.
“We’re lucky to have so many to enjoy, and Green Space Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and showcase them. I encourage everyone to come along, learn more, and take part in the day.”
Cllr Tom Partridge-Underwood, board member at Nene Valley Crematorium, added: “We are proud to be hosting this fantastic event. It gives us the opportunity to show how the crematorium is not only a place of remembrance, but also a valued green space, one for reflection, community connection, and nature, which we warmly invite people to explore and enjoy.
“Personally, I find great solace in walking the grounds of the crematorium, and I hope others will too.”
