NAFD issues new practical guide for supporting bereaved

The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) has created a practical guide to support the bereaved after the death of a loved one.
In association with the Bereavement Advice Centre (BAC) and probate advice service, Simplify, the free guide entitled ‘What to do when someone dies’, sets out each step in the process including how a death is confirmed and how to register it.
In addition the guide explains why a post mortem may be necessary, what an inquest is and any instances where the law differs to England in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Supplied free of charge to NAFD members for use with their clients, the service was launched at the NAFD conference in May and is also available from coroner’s offices, GP practices and Citizens Advice Bureaux.
Alan Slater, chief executive of the NAFD, said: “This free guide is designed to help people at this tough time and offer simple guidance and advice that they can follow.”
