A Mumbai cricketer chose to miss his father’s funeral to represent his region’s A team in a match against England.
Cricketer Javed Khan’s father had died while undergoing open-heart surgery, but Khan decided to play on, knowing that his father “wanted to see him bowl against England.”
Coach Raju Pathak told the Indian Express newspaper: “He was crying the whole night and was in a state of shock. But this match against England was a big opportunity for him.
“His father was keen to see him bowl against England. So he did what his father would have wanted him to do,” he added.
The 22-year-old was once a promising cricketer, playing in two Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai in 2010 before disappearing from play.
The match finished in a draw.
