Imaan Gardens opens in Surrey amid burial shortage for Muslims

Offering 2,600 plots on the first two phases of the site, the team at Imaan Gardens offer Islamic burial arrangements and support in accordance with the Sunnah

Imaan Gardens, a new burial site in Farnham, Surrey has been launched to address the accessibility, affordability and shortage of burial space in the UK for the Muslim community

The new privately-owned burial site is part of a movement in the UK, which has come about due to the full council cemeteries as well as religious needs and cultural beliefs.

Offering 2,600 plots on the first two phases of the site, the team at Imaan Gardens offer Islamic burial arrangements and support in accordance with the Sunnah, and work alongside the funeral director and Mosque to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day of the burial.

Kamran Saleem, founder of Imaan Gardens, said: “With rising burial costs, a larger number of domestic burials here in the UK for Muslim families, full council cemeteries and a lack of provision for those who require burial rather than cremation, we are facing a burial crisis in the UK.

“For the British Muslim community, it’s a need that we have to address now. Hopefully, Imaan Gardens will go some way to serving the needs of our community in a sensitive and equitable way.”

He added: “At Imaan Gardens, every plot is priced the same; at a council site, we know that families in need of a plot are charged thousands of pounds more if the deceased person lived in a different area. At an already difficult time, this lack of consideration flies in the face of what is desperately needed: compassion and common sense!”

Payment options with 0% interest will be available soon, for immediate need and pre-reserved plots available for all Muslims. Imaan Gardens will open to bookings on 10 December.
