Building merchants Merritt and Fryers have acquired Briggs and Duxbury for an undisclosed sum.

Both firms reportedly started out as builders and funeral directors before becoming building merchants, with the funeral director division of Briggs and Duxbury continuing to trade.

Rachel Fryers, a spokesperson for Merritt and Fryers, said: “We are delighted to be bringing our two firms together at this time. We plan to retain jobs for all the existing staff and will be looking to develop the business further.”

Established in 1909, Briggs and Duxbury history has over 100 years experience in all aspects of building material supplies and funerals.

Mark Brennand, Briggs and Duxbury, said: “We share the same values and background as family businesses with expertise and compassionate customer service central to our success.

“We are confident that this transition is a great opportunity and definitely great news for our employees and the Barnoldswick community.”
