Grief and bereavement expert Bill Webster has been awarded the British Citizen Award, which was given out during a ceremony 4 July at Westminster Palace.

During his 35 years career, he has developed an internationally recognised programme of grief support, including creating Grief Journey UK, producing hundreds of articles, DVD’s and hosting a TV programme in Canada together with numerous appearances in North America, Canada and the UK and writing a number of books, including ‘Now What’.

Webster has drawn from his own grief, following the sudden death of his wife, leaving him with two young boys to bring up. He has learnt the meaning of grief by using his own personal life experiences to build his knowledge and expertise on this highly sensitive subject.

Webster said: “I have felt strangely humbled by this award, feeling it is not about me personally, but rather a validation of the work I have done over the years in supporting grieving people and raising awareness of this often neglected area of support.

“I would just like to say that I have no intention of a “Brexit” from the UK scene and indeed am working to produce a brand new resource as a tribute to my dear son Steve, who died so tragically one year ago. Thank you to all who have supported my work, and become my friends.”
