A car has smashed into the front of a Hertfordshire independent funeral home.

The driver was taken to hospital after a grey Ford Fiesta went through the window at JJ Burgess & Sons in Codicote.

The male driver was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage, but a female passenger was unhurt, reports Welwyn Hatfield Times.

Welwyn Garden City firefighter Andrew Szememiako told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “We got called to Codicote about half-past-two.

“There was just one pump that arrived.

“There was a vehicle that had gone through the front of the funeral director. The ambulance arrived just as we arrived.

“There was a male and a female, who both seemed OK.”

“We had to assess the damage. They (the branch) will need some repair work, but there was no structural instability.”

The car has now been recovered.
