Guard of Honour formed for PC funeral

PC Keith Palmer was greeted by a Guard of Honour at his Full Force funeral, after being fatally attacked outside Westminster.

The Guard was formed by  close colleagues from commands including; Bromley Borough, Territorial Support Group (TSG) and Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection (PaDP).

The route into the cathedral was lined by a Guard of Honour formed by officers from all the police commands where PC Palmer worked and members of The Army Reserve.

The service was attended by over 50 members of PC Palmer’s family who came together to remember a man who is much missed; a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and best friend.

A personal tribute to PC Palmer was delivered by Chief Inspector Neil Sawyer.

Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, Cressida Dick read the poem ‘Funeral Blues’, by WH Auden.

The last post was played by bugler Lance Corporal Graham Haynes of the Honourable Artillery Company.

Hundreds of people gathered at Southwark Cathedral, and the areas surrounding the cathedral.

Attendees included Met officers and other emergency service colleagues who were part of the emergency response on Wednesday, 22 March, including the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade

Also paying their respects were the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd; Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London Kenneth Olisa; the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan; the Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Kath Whittan; and the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Sophie Linden.

 

Forces from across the country came together to remember their fallen colleague, with thousands travelling to line the route of PC Palmer’s journey to Southwark Cathedral.

The service was followed by a private Committal.
